Microsoft KB4016251 is required before installing McAfee products on Windows 10 Creators Update 64-bit systems if Device Guard or Credential Guard is enabled

Microsoft Windows 10 Creators Update 64-bit systems


CAUTION: If Device Guard or Credential Guard is enabled on a Windows 10 Creators Update 64-bit system, you must ensure that Microsoft KB4016251 is installed on the system before you install McAfee products. Microsoft KB4016251 is included in Windows 10 Creators Update build 15063.11 or later.

Because of an issue in Windows 10 Creators Update, if Microsoft KB4016251 is not installed and you install McAfee products, the system will show the following blue screen error and will no longer be bootable:


In some cases, there is no known workaround available for this issue. See the Workaround section below for any product-specific known workarounds.

Windows 10 Creators Update (build 15063.138) was released on April 11, 2017.

Endpoint Security:
The issue does not occur if you install Microsoft KB4016251 and Endpoint Security 10.5.1 with Hotfix 1 (HF1) on the Windows 10 Creators Update system.

Host Intrusion Prevention:
The issue does not occur if you install Microsoft KB4016251 and Host Intrusion Prevention 8.0 with Patch 9 Hotfix 1188590 (HF1188590) on the Windows 10 Creators Update system.

Endpoint Security:
To resolve the issue for Endpoint Security:
  1. Reboot the system and log on.
  2. Install Microsoft KB4016251 (reboot as directed).
  3. Install Endpoint Security.
  4. Reboot the system.
