An unexpected error occurred... (when editing users and RADIUS settings)

Environment

McAfee Network Security Manager (NSM) 8.1

Problem

In the Network Security Manager, if you edit users and RADIUS settings, you see the following error:

An unexpected error occurred during the processing of your request. Please try again. Failure has been logged to the log file; please review the log.

In addition, if you access Manage, Setup, External Authentication, RADIUS Servers, you see the following error:
 
Exception occurred while loading RADIUS authentication configuration.

Cause

The iv_auth_radius table is missing or corrupted.

Solution

  1. Stop the Manager Service by clicking the Network Security icon in the system tray, and selecting Stop Manager.
  2. Back up the manager database:
    1. Open a command-line session on the manager.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      <NSM install path>/app/bin/dbadmin.bat
       
    3. Set the backup type to ALL TABLES and run the backup.
       
  3. Drop the database:
    1. Navigate to <NSM database path>/bin/.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      mysql -uroot -p
       
    3. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      DROP DATABASE lf;
       
    4. Type exit to exit MySQL.
       
  4. Recreate the database:
    1. Navigate to <NSM install path>/app/bin/.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      initdb.bat install
       
    3. Navigate to <NSM database path>/bin/.
    4. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      mysqldump -uroot -p lf iv_auth_radius > radius.sql

      NOTE: This step creates the file in the <NSM database path>/bin/ directory. You might want to move this file to another location.
       
    5. Type the MySQL root password to start the database dump.
    6. After mysqldump has finished, type the following command and restore the backup created earlier:

      dbadmin.bat
       
    7. Navigate to <NSM database path>/bin/.
    8. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      mysql -uroot -p lf
       
    9. Type the MySQL root password.
    10. Type the following command and press ENTER:

      source <path to radius.sql>

      For example: source c:\temp\radius.sql
       
  5. Start the manager service by clicking the Network Security icon in the system tray, and selecting Start Manager.
